Mellon Udrigle is my favourite beach in Scotland. The beach is so clean and the nearby holiday accommodation and camping ground make it an ideal holiday location for all the family. Pets are welcome in this area, although you do need to be very careful as you share the countryside with highland cattle and sheep; well you sometimes even share the beach with them. I love taking pictures of this area; the quality of the light is breathtaking as is the scenery. The beach is ideal if you love sailing, windsurfing or canoeing. I am sure it is also great for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Mellon Udrigle's White Sandy Beach
I guess you can see I love Mellon Udrigle, I hope you can understand why. It is simply the most beautiful beach on mainland Scotland (in my opinion).
Gruinard Bay in Wester Ross
Gruinard Bay in Wester Ross is one of my favourite places; my dogs also love this beach as they have a very large area to run around in, especially when the tide is out. The water is reasonably shallow and when the tide is out you can splash around in water and everyone can have lots of fun. I happen to love seafood and I often collect cockles from this beach, when the tide is going out you can usually find them on surface or just under the surface of the sand. I suppose I should use a rake to drag over the sand as cockles are very near the surface, just as the tide goes out.
I remember a few years ago in Gruinard Bay up to my waste in the water dragging the soft sand with my fingers and bringing up dozens of tasty and delicious fresh cockles. I also have a dog that loves cockles and while I have used the pictures on one of my other websites I have put a few below just to show you how cheeky, Sam, my cross collie is.
