Scottish Islands & The HebridesThe HebridesThe hebrides cover many islands on the west and north west of Scotland, some like the Isle of Skye are now connected to the mainland by a bridge others you need to go by ferry, boat or by air. Scotland does have many other islands that are not part of the hebrides including Arran and to the far north of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. We visited the Isle of Lewis and Harris for a week in the early spring and enjoyed the trip from Ullapool. Scotland - Scotland TravelTowns, Villages & Places to Visit

Scotland CastlesCastle of Mey - CaithnessThe Castle of Mey is the Queen Mother's Home in Caithness. We recently visited this outstanding royal residence and enjoyed the castle and the gardens. The walled gardens has a productive vegetable garden, as well as flowers. Inside the Castle of Mey you can see the home that the Queen Mother made from a property that she renovated and has saved for the nation. For animal and pet lovers there is the small animal center and exhibit where you can see a range of chickens, pigs, sheep and other animals. Kids love visiting this area of the castle. Visit our Castle of Mey page for location map and more photographs of the Castle and Gardens. Achmelvich is near Lochinver in Sutherland. While I have a lot of favourite beaches in Scotland this must be one of the most beautiful holiday locations in the Scottish Highlands. At Achmelvich is a Youth Hostel, a caravan and camp site and cottages to rent. This is an ideal location to hire a campervan to explore, it is certainly easier than towing a caravan!

Take time out this year and experience Scotland, discovering one of the most wonderful places on the planet. Scotland is teeming with wildlife and for those interested in wildlife you will be able to visit areas throughout Scotland famous for its rare animals and wild flowers. I live in Fife beside the River Tay and when I walk my dogs along the river I often see buzzards flying overhead as well as the more famous inhabitants of the area where I live, namely Ospreys. I take photographs of the swans in the Lindores Loch which is a SSI and often see the Ospreys flying over the loch and diving for the fish. And this is in Fife, just think what you will be able to see when you break out of the lowland areas of Scotland and travel to the north of Scotland into the Scottish Highlands. In these areas you will if lucky be able to see Golden eagles, Sea Eagles as well as wild deer and the smaller creatures including otters. It all makes for a special holiday vacation in Scotland. So make it soon and visit Scotland today. |
