4 out of 5 stars Maps out of date   July 15, 2008

I've had the S30 for a couple of weeks and it is excellent for the price. Mostly takes me exactly to my chosen destination which I've found extremely useful when travelling on unlit and unmarked country lanes. The only down side I've found was when in the centre of Reading, Berkshire when it tried to send me down one-way streets on two occasions. Then it computes the route again and gets totally confused, repeatedly telling me to 'perform a u-turn when possible!'
Other than that I don't regret the purchase but next time would look for a model that allowed the mapping to be updated which the S30 does not, apart from buying whole new maps which are expensive.

2 out of 5 stars Navman S30 Sat Nav   July 3, 2008

I bought this following reading a good review in the Sunday Times. This was a mistake and returned it to Amazon who refunded promptly. Have since bought a Gamin Nuvi 200W from them. Totally satisfied.

The Navman couldn't identify my address or Post Code even though the house was built in 1969.

With the small screen keying in an address was fiddly even though I haven't got huge hands or fingers.

On the road the mapping was less than adequate taking me on some strange routes and it even wanted me to make a U turn in a one way street. Other roads that have been around for many years were also missing from its mapping.

Voice directions were generally quite good though the on screen map lagged behind far too much which I imagine would prove confusing in unfamiliar territory.

Not recommended even for the novice Sat Nav user as there are far superior products out there for very little more money.

5 out of 5 stars Navman S30 Is DAD PROOF   June 25, 2008

As with everyone researched these sat navs like mad as we were buying one for our dad so we needed one that was DAD PROOF and easy to use so we didn't have to sit down and show him how to use it from the off. Dad does a lot of travelling so got him this and he is well pleased with it so 5 star from me on this. It really was as the box said able to use from the moment you turn it on and EASY to use.

Would definitely recommend this as a cheap and easy to use product.

4 out of 5 stars Good and affordable   June 24, 2008

I read the reviews before getting this device to find evryone was pretty impressed. I can confirm that I'm also impressed with the size and visual represantation.

The only fault I found was that there appears to be some functionallity missing from this low spec, which they have included in the slightly higher spec devices. I don't really see why, cost dosen't seem to be the driver as its silly its not there. Its also worth noting that the 12 months camera warning is already in the device and after 12-13 months you will get a warning to subscripe (35). The new updated map for a specific region is 50 (Updated at your owne conveniance I think, map installed seems fairly resent).

I have also tried the maps out and found a few small issues, but it will only recalculate and it will still get you there.

If your a low user and fancy the convenience of Sat Nav then I recomend this device. If you want to use it in anger, well you get what you pay for.

3 out of 5 stars just short of my expectation   June 23, 2008

I already had a TomTom 500 in my other car and wanted a pocket sized unit for walking in London and for use in my little run around car. It came out of the box and worked, simple to set up and quick to find the satellite. Very simple screen which can't be seen in any kind of sun light in the car and the sound level of the voiced directions is poor. It does the job and is well priced but in my opinion the TomTom is worth the extra money.
