The Ultimate Imagery of Scotland November 12, 2002 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This book is just sheer pleasure ,with page after page of colour photographs showing the diverse scenery across Scotland and the Islands. It is low in factual narrative but not to its detriment as this book focuses on the visual, and has captured many of those moments you witness but never seem to be able to capture adequately on film.
Superb photography poorly presented April 27, 2002 7 out of 33 found this review helpful
This book contains the best landscape photography of Scotland that I have ever seen. The photographs of Slioch and Sky are particularly impressive. Unfortunately, the book suffers from that cliche which afflicts photography at the moment - oversaturation of colour. This ruins many of the shots, particularly those taken in strongly coloured evening light. Many photgraphs take on a cartoon like quality. I suspect that Colin's use of Velia, a film which is just not suited to landscape, it to blame.
Great photography poorly presented. April 26, 2002 1 out of 14 found this review helpful
The photographs are without doubt the best I have ever seen of many familiar parts of Scotland. Those of Slioch and Ben Alligin are particularly outstanding. The problem is the extreme over saturation of the prints which gives an unreal, cartoon quality. This may be due to Colin's use of the infamous Velia film or it may be a publishing fault.Graham Sumner
The best coffee-table book of Scottish landscapes January 20, 2002 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Wonderful and imaginative photography of some of the best landscape views of Scotland I have ever seen. Complemented by some interesting technical references describing the photographic techniques used.
Scotland in all its rain-soaked windswept glory December 9, 2001 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
This book's cover sets the tone: an epic aerial photograph of Ben More and surroundings. There are several more sweepingly romantic photographs of the Argyll area here, tracing landscapes through seasons and bringing in lots of lovely sunsets and shades contrasts. There are some stunning shots of wildlife also, such as the reindeer in snow on page 13. In the text, Colin Prior relates how each shot was set up and why he shot the photos in particular seasons, combining with the photographs to give a gloriously full-blooded and invigorating portrait of Scotland.
