5 out of 5 stars Can't be beaten   October 8, 2006

This is the best map you can buy for walking in the area. (Unless it's raining in which case get the plastic coated one). Only one criticism, the way the Ordnance Survey have the annoying habit of calling the area 'The English Lakes' when everybody else calls it 'The Lake District'.

4 out of 5 stars OS maps are essential   January 11, 2006

What can I say, OS maps are essential for any serious walkers or irregular enthusiasts. Their attention to detail is extraordinary.

One small criticism which meant I didn't award five stars is that they are too cluttered. This is aimed at walkers who probably don't care where parish boundaries are. Using this in the Lakes recently, I didn't spot paths on a couple of occasions because they were obscured by other symbols (such as the parish boundary) and I don't recall this being such a problem with my old copy (which, unfortunately, has gone to map heaven after many years of service).

Another criticism is that there seem to be more unmarked paths now and marked paths don't always appear on the ground as they do on the map.

Still, you'd be crazy to go for anything more than a gentle amble without one of these as a back-up (or one of the Harvey Superwalkers).

5 out of 5 stars Not as boring as one would think!   November 14, 2001

Even though this is only a map, it's great for someone who wants to plan a trip. i got it from my local library, but after planning a few trips, i decided to buy a copy. For all those adventurers out there!!!
